Cebu Re-visited and the Chapel of St. Pedro Calungsod

We were blessed with such good weather when we went to Cebu last August 13-14, 2014. We were only there for two days as I needed to get back to work to Manila on the 15th. But that doesn’t  stop me and hubby to make the most out of our trip even though there is work involved. As usual, for us, the attitude is to treat the trip as work and play.

As I said, we were blessed with good weather, considering that it’s the month of August. We had an early flight and we departed from Manila a few minutes before 6:00 a.m. The skies were clear and we had an awesome view of the islands. In fact, I even captured a silhouette of the Mayon Volcano from the plane window.

We arrived at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 7:00 a.m. It’s my hubby’s first time in Cebu, while it’s my second time. The first time was in June 2011 when I had a trip in Cebu for the weekend with my former office mates.

It is a welcoming sight for me to see the Marcelo H. Fernan Bridge. For me this is the iconic bridge indicating that you are indeed in the province island of Cebu.

On our first day, we went to the Cebu Provincial Capitol where the DOJ Agencies were located. We accompanied our client at the Office of the City Prosecutor. The Cebu Provincial Capitol is one of the most beautiful in the country. It is located along Escario St. You would not miss this beautiful landmark.

On our first night, we went to the Chapel of St. Pedro Calungsod located at the SM Seaside Complex. We were fortunate enough to have attended the evening mass. It was a very solemn mass inside a modern and airy church. There is even a personalized song for St. Pedro Calungsod, the closing song for the mass.  We rode a cab on our way there as the chapel is located  at the South Road Properties (SRP) area.

The land where the chapel is situated is donated by Henry Sy to the Archdiocese of Cebu, which explains why it is located at the SM Seaside Complex. Pedro Calungsod is the first Visayan saint.

It was also during our first night in Cebu when we went to the nearest Starbucks branch at our hotel and bought the provincial mug for Cebu. 🙂 We bought this mug at the Starbucks branch in Ayala Center Cebu.

The next day, we went to the Court of Appeals-Visayas, which is located also at Cebu City. All appealed cases from the Visayas Region are filed at the Court of Appeals. It was such a thrill for me to have a chance to personally appear at the Court of Appeals for the Visayas region. I was there to check the status of our case and to retrieve pertinent documents. It was definitely mission accomplished after I was able to procure everything that I needed for our case.

Since it’s my hubby’s first time to visit Cebu, I brought him to the city’s famous landmarks, such as Magellan’s Cross and the Basilica del Sto. Nino Cebu.

And of course, a trip to Cebu would not be complete without buying danggit as pasalubong. We went particularly at the Taboan Market just to buy pasalubong, with us smelling like danggit and pusit after, LoL!!

It may be just for two days but we were able to go to tourist spots in the city and even malling at Ayala Center Cebu despite the long hours we devoted to work while in Cebu. I am thankful for this opportunity to re-visit the Queen City of the South, this time with my hubby. 🙂
